“Grrrls, Guitars and Glory!” The Rise of the Women’s Performance Tent at Brighton Pride

Wednesday 15th April 2026

Location: The Lighthouse, Unit 3 Kensington Street

Tickets: Free, booking essential

Discover the origins and behind-the-scenes battles that kept it going. Experience the highs and lows, meet the small but mighty team of women who kept the pressure up to represent and serve their community and musical culture.

Did you come to the WPT at Pride? Did it play a part in your own celebrations? Dig out your photos! Bring your friends, your own stories and let’s relive those OG glory days!

Afterwards we will channel our energy and co-write our very own song to celebrate being together and visible and why its so very important - as a performer, as a music-lover, as a lesbian as a Brighton new-comer.

Join Brighton singer-songwriters and ‘grrrls with guitars’, Al Start and Seffy as they take you on a rollercoaster ride from the 90s through the noughties of Brighton’s incredible lesbian/women’s music scene that led to the birth of the Women’s Performance Tent at Pride. Ensuring lesbian visibility is never in doubt, Queer Heritage South: Live Archive will create a space for exploration, recognition, and celebration. Creating a community proudly connected to our past as we share the tales we always treasured but never found the space to tell. An opportunity to reunite, claim the narrative and direct the story ourselves, deciding how and what we wish to share.A selection of vegan/vegetarian refreshments will be provided.

The event is free, but spaces are limited, so booking is mandatory.
